Are you Ready for NaNoWriMo?

NaNoWriMo starts on Wednesday!  Are you ready for it? I sure hope you are, because I’ve been looking forward to it since September.

There’s something about writing during the month of November. We’re in the darkest month of the year. Daylight ellipses into the background from the early fall.

Now, at least here in Ontario, darkness falls around 6 pm, and it will be an hour earlier next week when daylight savings time ends.

For some people, this can be a hard time of year. More light makes a big difference in the lives of many of us who struggle with seasonal depressions and colds as well as flus. This year will probably be no different that way.

But what can be different this year is we can change our mindset towards the late fall. We can welcome it like a warm coat on a cold winter’s day.

To do this, we need to create structure and good habits for ourselves. And writers have a real benefit here. They can turn inward into their offices or corners in the living room, take out their laptops and write.

I think November is the perfect month to write. Whether you want to write a whole 50,000-word book or just part of one, November can be a good time for you to complete one more writing goal.

So, let’s all embrace the darkest month of the year by bringing light to our lives through writing. It can really be inspiring and helpful to get a few things done, checked off our goal sheet and finish the year strong.

So, will you join me in November?

I am looking forward to writing with you in the writing forum.

Take care and let’s spend the next two days preparing for NaNoWriMo.

You can do this by intentionally getting ready, setting small goals for all 30 days of November, writing them down, and when November 1st comes, getting going.
