A writer’s vision is usually derived from her intention to write. A writer’s vision is based on a short-term and long-term prognostic of which she wants to achieve in her writing career. A writer’s vision is usually something that is unique to the writer and it is determined by her themes and personality. Preparing a vision statement usually entails doing a bit of dreaming first. For instance, you should try to envision where you want to be in your writing career including what you would like to have done. Here are a few questions to ask yourself to create your vision statement: 1. Where would you like to be in your writing career in 5 years? Dream a little! How many books would you like to publish? On which topics? Do some brainstorming. 2. Where would you like to be in 3 years in your writing career? 3. Where would you like to be in 2 years in your writing career? 4. Where would you like to be at the end of this year? 5. How can you take steps this year to complete your goals or those goals? 6. What steps can you take this month to move your closer to your goal? 7. What steps can you take this week to move closer to your goal? By taking the time to answer these questions for yourself and writing down your answers, you can create a concrete vision statement that you can review time and time again.
