How to Overcome Loneliness

Writers require a lot of time alone to be a good writer. This solitariness can make some writers really lonely. This probably won’t affect every writer because if you’re an introvert, you probably love being alone for a certain amount of time every day.

However, if you’re more of an extrovert, you may need to create balance between writing alone and spending time with others.

Here are some tips to overcome loneliness.

  1. Write with others. Join online writing groups where you can write with others, either on zoom or in a chatroom. You can feel alone as a result.
  2. Spend quality time with family. Make time to chat with family members and share your feeling with them.
  3. Take frequent breaks when writing. Many of us start writing and don’t stop for hours. Make sure you start up and take a break every twenty to twenty-five minutes, even if it is for five minutes. Then go back to your writing. You can go get yourself a glass of water, cup of tea or hop on the treadmill.
  4. Get out of the house every day, even if it’s just into your backyard. Shut down your computer, take a walk or go to the gym. Just get to know whatever you need to do and then do it.
  5. Attend writers conferences. This can be a great time and place to meet other writers and even make friends. It can be a win-win for you.
  6. Coauthor with other writers. This can help you get together and share your work with others. This can also help you form friendships.

By taking these steps, you’ll feel less alone and more connected with others. It’s just a few of these wonderful ways not to feel alone.
