Having Your Space to Write

It’s essential for writers to have a space of their own when they’re writing. We need to feel inspired, safe and at home. Also, we don’t want to have to pack up all our stuff every day so that others won’t look at it. Writers need privacy.

Here are a few reasons why writers need a writing space to be their best.

  1. Inspiration: an inviting writing space can help you find inspiration and create your work.
  2. Focus: a writing space can help writers focus and be productive. We could be quiet and peaceful, making it easier to write.
  3. A writing space can help writers organize their materials and admin tasks.
  4. A writing space can help writers feel more comfortable and at home.

Therefore, for our writing space to be our own, we should:

• Make it our own by adding personal touches, such as candles, essential oils, or diffusers. We should also paint and decorate as we see fit.

• Declutter and get rid of things you don’t need, like old equipment manuals or duplicate office supplies.

• Add work surface. Give yourself enough space to write.

• Set up an efficient filing system and clear your desk every day before you leave.

Needing a space of our own is not a new idea. It goes back to Virginia Woolf A Room of One’s Own. But how we set it up is our domain. Put some thought into it because you’ll spend a lot of time in that space.
